Ordered Liberty

The lowlight of President Obama’s Middle East trip is his strong-arming of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu into a humiliating apology to Turkey’s Islamic-supremacist government over Israel’s defense in 2010 of its blockade of Hamas-controlled Gaza. The blockade was subjected to a terrorist offensive camouflaged as a humanitarian flotilla. The spearhead of the siege was the Mavi Marmara, a vessel controlled by a Turkish jihadist organization, the IHH, that is a part of the Union of Good, a formally designated terrorist organization under American law. Due to President Obama’s close relations with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Obama administration has resisted congressional calls to designate the IHH itself as a terrorist organization – sparing itself the embarrassment of noticing the intimate collusion of Erdogan’s ruling Islamist party and the jihadist group.

Nevertheless, the 2010 effort to break Israel’s blockade of Hamas (also a designated terrorist organization) was part of a long-term, ongoing, Islamic-supremacist campaign to break the blockade – an act of war against Israel. The Turkey-driven campaign figures prominently in Spring Fever: The Illusion of Islamic Democracy – my new book recently published in paperback by Encounter Books (after initially being available only as an eBook), which thoroughly details why the Islam-supremacist ascendancy in Turkey and Egypt prove the “Arab Spring” democracy narrative to be a fraud. As Spring Fever documents, Erdogan’s government and party, which vigorously backs Hamas, helped design the campaign, supported its prior voyages, orchestrated IHH’s purchase of the Mavi Marmara, jointly plotted the flotilla with IHH, arranged for approximately forty IHH jihadists to board the Mavi Marmara without inspection, ignored Israel’s pleas to prevent the blockade from embarking, and stridently condemned Israel when – as foreseeably as it was intentional – the flotilla’s provocation resulted in a violent confrontation with Israeli defense forces. Turkey’s feigned outrage, which even the pro-Islamist United Nations declined to affirm, is especially risible in light of (a) Erdogan’s open and notorious support of Hamas (which our NATO “ally” denies is a terrorist organization), and (b) Turkey’s own siege, partitioning, and occupation of northern Cyprus.

Two sections of Spring Fever deal with Turkey’s aggression against Israel. What follows here on Ordered Liberty beginning this evening is a two-part series culled from those sections. The first describes IHH: its roots in both terrorism and the Turkish regime, as well as its key role in the anti-blockade aggression. The second is an account of the Mavi Marmara incident.

Despite years of Erdogan’s bombast, the Israeli government — until Friday — steadfastly refused to apologize for exercising its sovereign right of self-defense from the flotilla offensive and from the Hamas terrorism that the blockade has righteously curtailed. The Obama administration’s collaboration with the terror-abetting Turkish government shames our nation and undermines America’s commitment to the rule of law, under which supporting Hamas and the Union of Good are serious felonies. It is abominable that President Obama chose to pressure the Netanyahu government to besot itself by apologizing to Turkey under these circumstances, and just days after Erdogan outrageously called Zionism a “crime against humanity.”

Israel will come to regret this capitulation.

Just a note.

Obama hasnt uttered one public statement in his recent trip about the persecution and ill treatment of the Christian minority in the MENA. Gross human rights violations against Christians dont seem to interest him in the slightest.

Smiling faces tell lies.

And yet, those who are so, so, desperate to hear that this man loves them, that they will ignore this act and what it uncovers about intent and motivations.

Obama "convinced" the easily duped and the readily deceived...who turned a blind eye to a lifetime of antipathy at best and enmity at worst toward Israel. Soft words painted in pastels hid the harsh reality.

But the forced apology to the man who called Zionism a "crime against humanity" and who aided and abetted a direct confrontational assault on Israel's doorstep...is not something to be ignored and swept under the rug like a mound of fertilizer. It will lump and stink...and the stench will not hide its presence.

How can a man in one breath advance Israel's right to exist in his words, then, in the next breath force an "apology" for defending that right against a man who calls that right to exist exterminable?

One of these sentiments is not real. I will choose the deed that falls neatly in line with a lifetime, over the pastel words that do not.

Unfortunately, the easily duped and those begging to be fooled again...will not beware of the handshake that hides the snake.

"It is abominable that President Obama chose to pressure the Netanyahu government to besot itself by apologizing to Turkey under these circumstances"

And it's ten thousand times more abominable that 70% of American Jews voted to reelect Insane-Hussein Obama and besotted themselves by doing it!

I don't like this Turkey thing either, but we'll see how this plays out. I agree with MenachemBenYakov below that there are things going on here behind closed doors that MIGHT justify this action, depending on what it leads to, in practical terms. Or, it might not....

But this trip wasn't all bad. It turned out a little better than I expected, even as I didn't expect much.

The best "gift" Obama gave Netanyahu unequivocal backing on the issue of the PA recognizing Israel as a Jewish state. Obama wouldn't do that two and a half years ago, when Netanyahu demanded just than in exchange for extending the construction freeze for three months; Obama's people at that time dismissed this as a "cynical dodge". Hey, for Obama, this is 'progress'.

And, whether Obama intended it this way or not, now Netanyahu has the raw materials he needs to resist any serious concession to the PA. He simply insists on recognition before any such concession of any type is made...and Obama can no longer object. That is important.

Obama is still a creep and I don't trust him one micron. I still hope he gets impeached. He is ruining America inside and out. But now, I only think he's 90% the creep he was before. Hooray.

Israel will be OK. Obama will be gone in four years, and if we are not a Venezuela-style one-party state by then (maybe we already are?), he will have given liberalism SUCH a bad name that everything associated with him - including his crappy treatment of Israel - will be repudiated.

We can only hope.

Turkey seems to be chickening out.

Erdogan apparently feels he can get away with changing the terms of the agreement he made.

Israel is small country , about ten times smaller than Turkey . There is nothing humiliating for Israel in this apology. However , last night ,Voice of America ( in Serbian language ), brought us an interesting story about Turkey . Turkey is new economic superpower, Turkey is humanitarian champion ( flotilla ?) ,blah, blah... USA obviously wants to save itself by selling us ( Balkans ) to Turkey. This is what I call humiliating.

Consider for a moment that Obama did not, " strong arm " Bibi rather Obama acted as a fig leaf to accomplish what we wanted all along- overflights over Turkey to facilitate an attack on Iran. With Turkey, Saudi, Israel and US jets flying out of Iraq an attack against Iran would be unstoppable. The Iranians would be forced to fight on three fronts. Hezbollah could be demolish if the Turks talk Hamas out of the game.
There is much going on under the surface. It always pays to sacrifice a pawn to take out a queen.

OK, but I feel sick. Turkey committed an act of war against us, tortured and almost murdered our soldiers, and we not only freed the criminals but apologized?

I suppose it's a small price to pay if you have no self-respect. But I agree that danger overrides these things. (Then again, I don't believe in Zionism.)

Maybe the PA can stuff the new US cash into some old Arafat accounts.

Maybe Yasir's widow Suha, living splendidly in Paris at last account, needs some new clothes.

Between millions and airplanes to Egypt and this release of $500 million, I'd say America's foreign policy is to finance our enemies, arm them to the teeth and further bankrupt ourselves.
