Bye-Bye, VAIO, Bye-Bye

Wednesday’s PC OEM news was that Sony is trying to sell off its struggling VAIO division, which used to build the only near thing to cool Windows machines. Now it seems LG is trying to get out of Windows, too, and focus on mobile. Nobody knows what will become of Dell, slated to slash “north of” 15,000 jobs as it tries to reinvent itself as a services company. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that HP was also looking for the exits.

Profits, contrary to what a progressive will tell you, are what create sustainability. And there are darn few to be had selling Windows PCs.

Maybe that should be the lesson of the Windows vs Mac battle which most everyone (including Steve Jobs) agreed had ended around 1995.
