An Observation on Seasons

I saw pumpkins piled a mile high in the grocery store today. Halloween is coming up, just a few weeks away, so the store is getting ready to sell pumpkins to its customers.

I heard serious politicians on television today participating in some sort of stern game show, complete with a lightning round of questions. This confused me on several levels, but mostly it confused me because there’s no election coming up. Not even close. It’s still more than a year away!

I’ve had all evening to think about all this, and the only thing I know to do is listen to the incomparable Tom Waits sing about Christmas and a hooker. So here he is. Timely as ever.
