Lies, Damned Lies, and Polls

Maybe I was wrong saying that a Congressional investigation into the 9/11 intelligence “failure” is politically necessary.

NBC/WSJ poll question:

Do you think that there should be a full-scale investigation into the handling of intelligence before Sept. 11, or do you feel that would be unproductive and too political?
Should be an investigation: 36%
Investigation would be unproductive and too political: 58%

However, don’t think that the two answers are mutually exclusive — that’s one of the dangers of polls.

On the flip side, some Dems are already backing off the Administration, so perhaps the pressure to investigate will slacken. Then again, there are lots of hungry reporters in the Washington press corps, and they haven’t had a good scandal to gorge on in ages.
