Transgender ‘Male’ Mother Gives Birth, Undermines Her Own Ideology by Calling the Child a Boy

Last month, a transgender “man” gave birth to baby boy, but the very way she referred to this child undermined her own ideology. Trystan Reese, who was born a biological woman but started taking male hormones ten years ago, gave birth to a child with her partner of seven years, Biff Chaplow. Their son, Leo Murray Chaplow, was born July 14. (The two were already raising two adopted children, but this is their first biological child.)

“We are so lucky to have been able to welcome him into our lives and cannot wait to see who he grows up to be,” the couple told CNN in a joint statement. They said Leo “eats like a champ, sleeps well, and gives us lots of cuddles.”

Leo sounds like a very cute baby, but Trystan and Biff technically have no right to call him a boy, according to the logic of transgenderism. In recent years, transgender activists have started complaining about “gender reveal” parties, saying that it is wrong to assume the gender of a baby before he or she can choose a gender.

Indeed, biologically, Trystan Reese is still a woman. It may sound “transphobic” to say so, but this mother has female DNA and a fully functioning womb. By every scientific measure — and by the very same criteria that Trystan Reese and Biff Chaplow used to determine the sex of their child — Reese is a woman.

If Reese is not a woman, how is Leo Chaplow a boy? By referring to her son as a boy, Trystan Reese has admitted the basic biological truth that denies her gender identity as a transgender “man.”

It may sound harsh to insist that Reese has to wait to refer to her own son as a boy, and it is. But if she were to truly be consistent about gender identity, she would have to wait to use such loaded gender terms about her child until he can make up his mind about being a boy or a girl.

The maternal instinct has taken over, and the fragility of love has won over Trystan Reese’s transgender ideology. She loves her son, and cannot bear using gender neutral words to describe the beautiful baby she holds in her arms. This is natural and good, even praiseworthy.

But it reveals the fundamental weakness in transgender ideology. By insisting that gender is a social construct and different from sex, this movement forces an unnatural (and unscientific) view on humanity, one much weaker than the psychological tie of motherly love.

Trystan Reese may insist that she is a man, and she has even taken hormones to grow a beard. Transgender ideology would denounce as “transphobic” anyone who suggests this is grotesque, but it would also denounce Reese for calling her son a boy.

Reese’s love has conquered ideology, even if she cannot realize it.

The rest of the story is nothing less than bizarre. Reese started taking hormones ten years ago, and grew muscles and a beard. But she never had her uterus removed. After a surprise pregnancy and miscarriage, she decided she actually wanted to give birth naturally.

Reese and Chaplow posted a video announcing a pregnancy in January, and Reese posted another video in March explaining his decision to carry a baby as a transgender “man.”

“I’m OK with my body being a trans body,” Reese said in the video. “I’m OK being a man who has a uterus and has the capacity and capability of carrying a baby.”

“The moment he was born was just, like, a pure moment of bliss, like, the happiest moment of my life,” Biff Chaplow said, KATU-TV reported. “To see the very beginning of Leo, of his life, was just, like, amazing.”

Yes, the birth of a baby is amazing, and that joyous love has conquered the power of transgender ideology over Chaplow and Reese. But that does not mean Reese is likely to reject her transgender identity, even as she acknowledges the biological sex of her beautiful baby boy.

She likely won’t even realize the hypocrisy.
