Genital Costumes at Women's March Alienated Trans Women

The uber-progressive Women’s March claimed to be speaking for all women.

According to the progressive glossary, all that’s needed for someone to qualify as a member of a given gender is merely to identify as a member of that gender. Under that metric, surely the Women’s March would make absolutely sure to be inclusive of trans women.

Only, you know … they didn’t.

The most identified symbols of the march were the knit pink hats with cat-like ears dubbed “pussy hats” — as well as the women prancing around dressed as vaginas. These symbols created what many trans women consider an exclusionary environment:

“The main reason I decided not to go was because of the pussy hats,” 28-year-old Jade Lejeck said in an interview Sunday night. “I get that they’re a response to the ‘grab them by the pussy’ thing, but I think some people fixated on it the wrong way.”

Lejeck, a trans woman from Modesto, California, said the hats signaled to her that there would be other trans-exclusionary messages at the women’s marches.

She expected her local march to have its fair share of trans-exclusionary radical feminists, known as TERFs. As Lejeck described it, there are two categories of TERFS: One is the accidental TERF — “the ones who have signs that equate womanhood with having a vagina,” she said. The other category, Lejeck explained, includes feminists who argue trans women are actually men in disguise trying to infiltrate their spaces.

A friend told [trans woman Lillian] McDaniel about a protester they’d seen marching with a two-foot-tall hand-knit uterus. She was glad she stayed home.

“I think it ended up being a white cis women march,” McDaniel said. “There were other marginalized communities there, but it didn’t seem like they were the focus.”

Forrey suggested that the saturation of vagina-related messages and imagery reinforced the same oppressive structures the march was meant to oppose, which was a loss for everyone.

Whoops.

Meanwhile, many who opposed modern progressivism are laughing their butts off at this.

Proponents of identity politics don’t realize that their ideas are irrational and doomed to cannibalize themselves on the drawing board. They create a hierarchy of oppression, but no one knows just which identity is most oppressed, and all people have a mix of identities and life situations. But they also consider identities to not be linked to biology, but self-determined — an idea which necessarily destroys the whole oppression hierarchy. The only solution is for identities to come with required opinions, but that destroys the idea of fluid identities. And a woman who has an an idea that opposes feminism isn’t actually a woman anymore, which destroys the idea of women being autonomous, a definition of misogyny.

So now you’re all just a bunch of ass****s dressed like vaginas.

These conundrums, present on the drawing board, are exactly what played out. They had to exclude pro-life feminist groups — they couldn’t be real women. Clearly, the same conundrum in defining real women led to the exclusion of trans women.

No matter how much they pontificate to the contrary, the Women’s March wasn’t really about women at all. It was about nothing in particular beyond hatred for those who point out their own nonsense.
