Willfully Blind Belgian Lawmakers Nominate Palestinian Terrorist for Nobel Peace Prize

Members of Belgium’s House and Senate have nominated a Palestinian terrorist for the Nobel Peace Prize. According to the lawmakers, Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti holds the key to peace in the region in his hands.

The only problem? Barghouti, the peace activist (ahem), is currently serving five life sentences in an Israeli jail for murder.

Barghouti is, like all other members of Fatah (founded by former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat), an authoritarian Islamic radical. In the early 2000s he was complicit in several murderous attacks during what’s now known as the Second Intifada. In total, he was convicted of five counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and involvement in at least four other terrorist attacks.

Oh, and he’s also the former leader of Fatah’s “armed wing” called Tanzim and the founder of the notorious terrorist group the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade.

None of that matters one bit to Belgium’s lawmakers, however. They see him merely as a “political prisoner” who’s punished for demanding independence for his people:

Lawmakers from both the Belgian Senate and House of Representatives penned a letter to the Nobel nominating committee praising Barghouti as a peace activist and key to future talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

“He is an important actor for the future of a region more fragmented than ever,” the letter reads, according to the Palestine News Network. “Peace requires the freedom of Marwan Barghouti and of the political prisoners, and more generally the freedom of the Palestinian people living for decades under occupation.”

Sickeningly, the lawmakers continue by declaring that Barghouti winning the Nobel Peace Prize would somehow help bring about a two-state solution. How does that work, exactly? Eliminate all the Jews and there will finally be “peace”?

After his imprisonment, Barghouti now says he’s opposed to violence, but nobody takes that seriously. There’s a reason that he’s popular among supporters of both Hamas and Fatah: he’s has proven himself to be a Jew killer, and that’s exactly what they’re looking for.

Apparently, Belgium’s lawmakers have no problem with that. “Long live peace, kill the Jews!”
