McCain: Now That the Muslim Bros are Deposed, We Should Suspend U.S. Aid to Egypt

I don’t even…

Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain is calling on President Obama to suspend aid to Egypt after its military overthrew the country’s government.

McCain, a member of the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee, on Friday called for the United States to suspend its $1.5 billion in annual aid, based on long-standing federal law that prohibits the U.S. from giving aid to countries in which a military coup overthrows a democratically elected government.

“We cannot repeat the same mistakes that we made at other times in our history by supporting the removal of freely elected governments,” McCain said during a public event in Prescott, Ariz.

The Muslim Brotherhood were elected, mainly because when our government helped depose Mubarak, the Bros were the only organized political force in Egypt. They’re hardly Jeffersonians. They swept in and began to institutionalize hardline Islamist rule.

Many of the same people who elected them, rose up to depose them.

Now we have the Obama administration and their interference man in the Senate, John McCain, threatening Egypt with a suspension of aid. The time to suspend aid was when the Muslim Brotherhood took over and suggested that the peace accord with Israel was in jeopardy. Not now.

McCain’s suggestion puts pressure on the Egyptian military to put the Brotherhood back into power. Not good.

More: By all means, let’s put America on the record supporting reinstating a government that unleashes rape squads on protesters. That’ll be just great for our international image.
