Romney Enters the Closing Arguments Phase of the Campaign

While Barack Obama is campaigning on Romney’s “binders full of women” line — which sounded funny at the time, but basically meant nothing — Mitt Romney has launched the following new video ad:

Mitt Romney stood on the stage with Barack Obama two weeks ago and presented himself as the more plausible and presidential of the choices on our ballot this election. The polls have shown movement in his direction. Several swing states, Florida, Virginia and North Carolina, appear to have stopped swinging and are likely to be in Romney’s column.

The day after the second presidential debate, here is how the two nominees chose to present themselves.

Obama:

Obama made a passing reference Wednesday to the remark still buzzing with memes and snarky comments in the Twitterverse after last night’s match-up.

“We don’t have to collect a bunch of binders to find qualified, talented, driven young women ready to learn and teach in these fields right now,” Obama said to supporters in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

He continued: “When young women graduate, they should get equal pay for equal work. That should be a simple question to answer.”

Obama talked about Tuesday night’s showdown, telling the crowd in Iowa, “I’m still trying to figure out how to get the hang of this thing.” Debating, that is.

“We’re working on it,” he said. “We’ll keep on improving as time goes on. I’ve got one left.”

Romney:

Romney ticked through questions he said the president had avoided answering during the debate, including on immigration reform, the jobs market, and gas prices.

“I think it’s pretty clear that when it comes to his policies and his answers and his agenda, he’s pretty much running on fumes,” Romney quipped, telling voters they had 20 days left to make a choice about America’s future….

“This president has failed America’s women,” Romney told the audience. “As I go across the country and ask women what can I do to help, what they speak about day in and day out is help me find a good job, or a good job for my spouse. And help my kid, make sure my children have a bright future, better schools and better job opportunities.”

“That’s what the women of America are concerned about and the answers are coming from us and not from Barack Obama,” Romney said.

One tweeter, Amy Leigh, reacted to Obama’s latest gambit:

Barack Obama may not yet realize that Mitt Romney has lapped him in the campaign. While the president acts as Tweeter in Chief to fire up his base but motivate no one else, Romney presents himself as a Commander in Chief closing the deal that, to many undecided Americans, he first proposed two weeks ago. Obama is still reaching backward, while Romney is looking forward, with less than three weeks to go.
