Obama: Cut Defense Before Food Stamps

Can’t say I’m surprised at the president’s spending priorities.

“I think what’s absolutely true is that core commitments that we make to the most vulnerable have to be maintained,” Obama said. “A lot of the spending cuts that we’re making should be around areas like defense spending as opposed to food stamps.”

He did let slip in the twitter debate that he would prefer to cut defense as opposed to cutting programs that he likes.

Never mind that we’re at war, and defense spending is not the major driver of our debt, which is now larger than the combined economies of China and Japan. And never mind that entitlement spending continues to increase while defense spending has declined.

The president’s priority is to buy as many votes as he can with your money, and spending to defend the country doesn’t buy the votes he’s looking for.
