Gov. Scott Walker is looking more and more like a leader.
Walker said demonstrators who filled the state capitol building in Madison and the boycott by state Senate Democrats — some of whom fled the state in protest — have steeled the resolve of members of his party. …
Walker also fired back at President Obama, who sided with the public employees, saying on Fox News Friday, “We are focused on balancing our budget. It would be wise for the government and others in Washington to focus on balancing their budgets, which they are a long way off from doing.”
This is starting to look like a stalemate. The GOP isn’t going to bow, and the Democrats who fled look foolish and cowardly but aren’t coming back to make a quorum to allow a vote yet. They’re Democrats until democracy yields things they don’t like. But Gov. Walker is standing strong against the 40% of teachers who are engaging in what looks like an illegal strike. That phrase — illegal strike — might start cropping up in Gov. Walker’s speeches and public comments, as a warning.
