Sputnik Irony: Legendary NASA astronauts say Obama has devastated our space program

Just a piece of irony that’s been making the rounds in space circles about President Obama’s invocation of the Sputnik program in his State of the Union speech.

Since coming to office President Obama has slashed the manned space program.  Last year three legendary astronauts sent a letter to the President saying his plans for NASA could be “devastating” to the U.S. space program and “destines our nation to become one of second- or even third-rate stature.” Among those astronauts was Neil Armstrong, the first human to set foot on the moon.
