Just One Minute blog is discussing the suggestion that to prove their bipartisanship the Republicans in the House and Senate should sit intermingled with the Democrats during the President’s State of the Union Address. I think this is such a transparent ploy to make the President and his agenda look more popular than they are that we should consider this an I.Q. test of the Republicans in Congress.
Poster bgates thinks the vote to repeal Obamacare should come before the address and adds the details of his plan:
I think it would be a nice bipartisan gesture if [the repeal vote] happened immediately before. The Republicans could offer the President the historical, unprecedented opportunity to preside over a House vote live and in prime time, and then they could ask the Democrats to join them in a display of the civil bipartisan unity that was the major goal of the electorate and vote to defund the job-killing wealth-destroying abomination of Obamacare.
Then the Democrats could show everybody how committed to bipartisanship they are, and then the President could give his little speech.
