Perhaps because of the success of The Wrestler, the buzz around Darren Aronofksy’s latest movie Black Swan – a kind of All About Eve cum Grand Guignol at the Lincoln Center ballet company – has been tremendous. For our latest POLIWOOD, Lionel and I caught the film, which opens December 3 for Oscar consideration, in separate screenings at the Director’s Guild. We were both eager to see it, since Lionel, particularly, is a dance maven.
Suffice it to say, although we were both great fans of The Wrestler, we were underwhelmed. The Academy, however, is likely to feel differently. Come Oscar time, Lionel and I like to make a distinction between how we will vote and how we think our co-members will.
