Okay, the Hoax Is Over: Cloudy Days Ahead for the National Center for Atmospheric Research

The idea of man-made climate change is one of the most successful hoaxes ever perpetrated upon the poor, beleaguered human race. Not only do millions of people accept as axiomatic that it is real, but they look down upon climate skeptics as a bunch of ignorant, science-denying yahoos who have the temerity to exalt their opinions above those of the Experts.

Nearly all of the governments of the West have committed to varying degrees of economic suicide in pursuit of the solution to this imaginary problem. Leftists are enraged at President Donald Trump for being skeptical about all their myths, and drawing back from some of his predecessors’ more outlandish commitments to economic self-destruction. That just makes leftists all the more enraged, and they continue to insist that more, much more, must be spent, lest Miami is covered in water within, at very least, the next couple of hours.

No kidding. As far back as Dec. 1923 (yes, 1923), the Associated Press (AP) reported that “the hot dry seasons of the past few years have caused rapid disintegration of glaciers in Glacier National park, Montana.” The park’s largest glacier, Sperry Glacier, “has lost one-quarter, or perhaps one-third of its ice in the past 18 years,” and “if this rapid retreat should continue…the glacier would almost disappear in another 25 years.” Spoiler alert: Sperry Glacier is still there.

AP was still at it over sixty years later. On June 29, 1989, it published an article stating: “A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.” Yeah, wow, that would be bad.

Enough is enough. The American people have been bled dry and inconvenienced in thousands of large and small ways for this fiction, and it’s time to call a halt. Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought announced Tuesday that the National Science Foundation will dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Politico, which is, of course, crestfallen, termed this “the latest salvo in the Trump administration’s push to gut federally funded climate research.” Hooray.

Vought wrote: “The National Science Foundation will be breaking up the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. This facility is one of the largest sources of climate alarmism in the country. A comprehensive review is underway & any vital activities such as weather research will be moved to another entity or location.”

Shutting down a leading center of climate alarmism is all to the good, but Politico tries to make it sound as if an agency that is performing a vital function is being gutted at the hands of the evil Trump administration. It explains that NCAR “has long provided universities and academics with state-of-the-art resources to perform advanced earth system research.” What that really means, however, is that it provides climate change propaganda to leftist academics, and no, we don’t need any more leftist propaganda organs.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D-Climate Fantasy) is, however, duly enraged, and released a statement on Tuesday in which he gave us this positively Fauciesque phrase: “Science is being attacked.” Gee, that’s terrible, Jared. Heavens to betsy, we must do all we can to save science! Before you get to work on that, however, please remind us about how women can become men and men can become champion female athletes.

Polis continued by trying to make the agency sound as if it did sensible work: “NCAR delivers data around severe weather events like fires and floods that help our country save lives and property, and prevent devastation for families. If these cuts move forward we will lose our competitive advantage against foreign powers and adversaries in the pursuit of scientific discovery.” This is just empty alarmism, however, in light of Vought’s specific statement that “any vital activities such as weather research will be moved to another entity or location.”

This is how leftists work: they sell a program to the American people on the basis of its meeting a genuine need, get it approved, established, and lavishly funded, and then redirect toward their own delusions, fantasies, and corruption. The U.S. government shouldn’t be spending a penny on the mirage of man-made climate change, and any agencies that are dedicated to perpetuating that nonsense should be dismantled posthaste. As such, the Trump team is to be commended for putting an end to the National Center for Atmospheric Research.
