The Democrats, consumed with hatred for President Donald Trump, get more outlandish by the minute. The guy who wants to see the children of people he hates get murdered before their parents’ eyes is going to be attorney general of Virginia. The Marxist Twelver Shi’ite who refused to condemn calls for the wholesale murder of Jews worldwide is going to be mayor of New York City. And the guy with the Nazi tattoo who called himself an “Antifa supersoldier” wants to be a U.S. senator from the state of Maine.
To the surprise of absolutely no one, Democrat Maine Senate contender Graham Platner wants to destroy the Supreme Court, and with it, any hope that Americans might have of being able to dissent from the left’s agenda. That naked authoritarianism could well make Platner a shoo-in to win the Dems’ nomination for the Senate.
The Washington Free Beacon reported Sunday that Platner was open about wanting to gut the Supreme Court in order to ensure that leftism becomes Americans’ only option. Platner couched his authoritarian appeal as a call to save the Court from its terrifying turn toward patriotism: "We're going to have to start treating the Supreme Court,” the Nazi Antifa candidate said, “like the political action wing that it has become of conservatism. It is not functioning as a constitutional body."
No, Platner. It’s precisely because the Court is functioning as a constitutional body that you hate it so much. A constitutional body is not one that rules always the way the left wants. In fact, the left’s favorite Supreme Court rulings — Roe v. Wade (abortion), Obergefell v. Hodges (gay marriage), National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius (Obamacare) — just happen to be ones that depart most decisively from the actual letter of the Constitution. The Trump Court, however, has issued a few rulings that you dislike because they went against the left, and so now you want to do what leftists always want to do with dissidents: shut them down.
Platner was open about his authoritarian aspirations: "I'm a supporter of stacking the Court," he said proudly. "I'm also a supporter of, I mean, the Senate can write its own rules.... I firmly believe if we held Supreme Court justices to the same standard that we hold other federal judges, there's a compelling case for the impeachment and removal of at least two justices."
Let me guess: Kagan and Sotomayor, right? Haha, just kidding, big guy! The whole world knows you mean Alito and Thomas. But if we had any journalists in the United States, and if they had any courage, they’d be asking you exactly what Alito and Thomas did to deserve being impeached, other than not voting the way you like.
"It's very frustrating to me,” Platner continued plaintively, “that there are Democrats in the Senate that either do not understand or don't want to understand the power they actually have.... If we retake the Senate, get the majority — fingers crossed — we need to use every single lever of power that we have to deal with the Supreme Court." Right, Platner! Can’t allow Americans who disagree with you to have any defenders at all, eh? You learned well from your Nazi and Antifa heroes!

A typical leftist down to the last detail, Platner issued this authoritarian call to arms while accusing his enemy of exactly what he himself was guilty of doing: Trump, he claimed, was engaging in "full-blown fascism." He declared: "The starting point for whatever comes next is the exact same place, whether we are talking about winning a Senate seat in a normal election next November, or whether we're talking about figuring out how to resist fascism in contested elections, because the White House is going to do what we think it's probably going to do. We have a changing climate, which — before we had full-blown fascism in this country — I would have said was probably the biggest problem on the horizon."
Now, let’s see. Which one wants to rig the Supreme Court so that it only rules the way he wants: Donald Trump or Graham Platner? That would be Platner. So which one is the fascist again? And since Democrats love authoritarians, guess who is the frontrunner for their Senate nomination?
