Ben Smith of Politico calls the ad below “an attack ad”. James Fallows of the Atlantic calls it “phenomenal” even though he adds that “if you know anything about the Chinese economy, the actual analytical content here is hilariously wrong.”

So where does it get its emotional power? Less from the fictional Chinese professor’s lecture than the sheer daily horror of hearing America’s professional politicians ramble and thinking: maybe America’s rivals aren’t ten feet tall, but suppose the political leadership in Washington is six inches high?

Perhaps historians of the future will discover that the public policy thought processes in the 21st century never exceeded the level of cheesy dialogue in the video game Zero Wing. Is it really impossible for a set of politicians to win a race to bottom?
