Harvey Weinstein, the Hollywood power player behind the Weinstein Company and Miramax, has been accused of multiple sexual abuses over the last several decades. Even celebrities like Ashley Judd have come forward, saying they were propositioned or asked to do sexual things that they did not want to do. He, ironically, produced the film The Hunting Ground, about the sexual assaults that occur on college campuses; this effort was lauded for bringing light to an urgent sexist problem.
In fact, a big part of the problem here is that, while liberals would normally be the feminist activists supporting anyone who accuses men of sexual assault, they’re holding back right now because Weinstein is one of their own. You probably know quite a bit about Donald Trump’s “grab her by the p**sy” comment; but what have you heard about Weinstein’s request that Judd, in her twenties, give him an erotic massage in a hotel room? What have you heard about the eight financial settlements Weinstein has made with women to keep them from talking about the sexual incidents they suffered by him? We, appropriately, vilified Bill Cosby, but are, for some reason, asked to look the other way on Weinstein…
Maybe that reason is that Weinstein is a good friend of the Clintons. Maybe it’s because Weinstein held a lavish fundraiser for Hillary in 2016. Maybe it’s that Weinstein gave Malia Obama her first internship. Maybe it’s because Weinstein endowed a faculty chair position at Rutgers University in the name of feminist icon Gloria Steinem. Or maybe it’s because Weinstein was an active participant in the women’s march movement. Is it possible that the mainstream media is looking the other way because of all his liberal contributions? Um, duh?

And, while the late night comedy television shows leave no punches pulled anytime a conservative does anything remotely wrong, there was only one mention of Weinstein on any of the major shows. It was actually Trevor Noah, on The Daily Show, who brought him up, and you’ll want to see how brief his mention was.

It should be noted that not everyone is simply taking Harvey’s word for it, agreeing that he wasn’t treating women poorly. Weinstein’s own lawyer, a self-proclaimed women’s rights advocate, Lisa Bloom, said, “He denies many of the accusations as patently false. Nevertheless, I have explained to him that due to the power difference between a major studio head like him and most others in the industry, whatever his motives, some of his words and behaviors can be perceived as inappropriate, even intimidating.”
