Comey: ‘My Wife and Girls’ Marched in Anti-Trump Women's March

During former FBI Director James Comey’s interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos Sunday night, he admitted that his wife supported Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and that his wife and daughters marched in the anti-Trump Women’s March. He also described his first meeting with Trump, whom he described as “morally unfit” to be president.

While he didn’t elaborate on his political differences with his wife, Patrice Failor, Comey admitted, “My wife and girls marched in the Women’s March the day after President Trump’s inauguration.”

“At least my four daughters — probably all five of my kids, wanted Hillary Clinton to be the first woman president,” said Comey. “I know my amazing spouse did.”

Comey told Stephanopoulos that he didn’t vote in the 2016 election, saying it would have been improper for the FBI director to take a side.

Failor said in the interview, “I wanted a woman president really badly, and I supported Hillary Clinton. A lot of my friends worked for her. And I was devastated when she lost.” Failor, a foster care advocate and counselor, has been married to Comey for 31 years.

The former FBI director painted a devastating profile of the president, describing him as “morally unfit” to hold office, though “not in the way I often hear people talk about it.”

“I don’t buy this stuff about him being mentally incompetent or early stages of dementia. He strikes me as a person of above average intelligence who’s tracking conversations and knows what’s going on. I don’t think he’s medically unfit to be president. I think he’s morally unfit to be president,” said Comey. “A person who sees moral equivalence in Charlottesville, who talks about and treats women like they’re pieces of meat, who lies constantly about matters big and small and insists the American people believe it, that person’s not fit to be president of the United States, on moral grounds. And that’s not a policy statement. Again, I don’t care what your views are on guns or immigration or taxes.”

Comey added, “There’s something more important than that that should unite all of us, and that is our president must embody respect and adhere to the values that are at the core of this country. The most important being truth. This president is not able to do that. He is morally unfit to be president.”

Comey began the interview by criticizing the president’s appearance. He was asked to give his first impression upon meeting President Trump on January 6, 2017, at Trump Tower. Comey was there to brief the president on the notorious Steele dossier and said he was nervous about meeting Trump after seeing how “volatile” he had been during the campaign.

Nevertheless, the first thing he noticed about Trump when the two met was his “impressively coiffed hair.” Comey said, “It looks to be all his.”

“I confess I stared at it pretty intently and my reaction was, ‘must take a heck of a long time in the morning,'” said the former FBI director.

He added, “His tie was too long, as it always is. He looked slightly orange with small, white half-moons under his eyes, which I assumed were from tanning goggles.”

Two weeks after that meeting at Trump Tower, Comey’s wife and daughters would take to the streets to protest President Trump’s presidency.
