Political commentator Roland Martin told PJM that most people threatening to leave the country if GOP frontrunner Donald Trump is elected president would not follow through but said if Miley Cyrus left it would be a “good thing for America.”
Cyrus and some other celebrities have said they would move out of the country if Trump wins. Cyrus tweeted, “I am moving if this is my president. I don’t say things I don’t mean.”
Martin said Cyrus should leave.
“I saw this great tweet: 62 percent of Americans don’t have a passport. You kind of need a passport to leave the country, so you might want to get that between now and November if you are threatening to leave the country. And then Miley Cyrus said she is going to leave – that’s a good thing for America,” Martin said during an interview at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
Martin named Fox News host Sean Hannity when asked if there is anyone else he would like to see leave the country.
“Hannity is a wimp,” said Martin, a former CNN contributor. “Hannity has been refusing to debate me for years.”
He recalled challenging Hannity to a debate on numerous occasions but never receiving a response.
“I’ve never seen somebody who supposedly likes to debate who runs. I’m not afraid to debate anybody. I don’t care who it is. Rush Limbaugh. Bill O’Reilly,” he said.
Looking directly into the camera, Martin said, “This is real simple, Sean. If you want to debate, let’s go. Toe-to-toe. Pick the issue. Pick the day. I’m there.”
During the interview, Martin predicted that Democratic president candidate Hillary Clinton would defeat Trump in a general election matchup.
“When you get down to a general election, I believe when you have those three presidential debates people are going to say, ‘OK, no games, this is not pre-season. This is not regular season. This is the playoffs and when it comes to that, what do you have to say that’s real?’ He can’t at that point keep dancing around and then all of a sudden, ‘Ted you are a liar’ and ‘you’re little Marco’ – all of those antics won’t play. You actually have to say something,” he said.
