Are you stupid enough to believe that the Green New Deal is about saving the world? If you think that, it’s clear you have a very naive view of the hard left.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez believes that the Green New Deal is actually about a massive transfer of wealth. She and Senator Bernie Sanders, who just happens to be running for president, are proposing spending $180 billion on “re-imagining” public housing.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Thursday unveiled the next step to their Green New Deal plan with a bill focused entirely on reimagining public housing.
The bill from the two progressive firebrands places a sharp focus on decarbonizing the nation’s public housing units.
The proposal calls for an investment of $180 billion over 10 years to sustainably retrofit and repair public housing with the goal of eliminating all carbon emissions. The housing units would meet the zero-emissions goal through the use of solar panels and renewable energy sources.
The lawmakers say the legislation would not only cut the carbon footprint of the country’s fleet of housing units but enrich the lives of their inhabitants.
Has anyone thought of asking public housing tenants what they think about having their lives “enriched” by solar panels and other green gizmos when they become guinea pigs in AOC’s wealth transfer schemes ? I thought not.
Some of this proposal sounds like a bad leftist fantasy.
“The Green New Deal for Public Housing Act will train and mobilize the workforce to decarbonize the public housing stock and improve the quality of life for all residents,” she said in a statement.
“Train and mobilize” a workforce of high school dropouts, gangbangers, and druggies? Obviously, not all public housing tenants fall into one of those categories, but I wonder how long those solar panels will last before a bunch of kids dismantle them and sell them for cash or drugs?
Training public housing residents to work in “green industries” sounds great, but exactly how does that work? What transportation do they use to get to a job? Who’s going to hire them? Do we bring New York or Chicago public housing residents out to Arizona or New Mexico where large-scale solar projects actually make some sense?
It’s true that solar panels are getting better, putting out more energy per solar cell. But no one has yet figured out how to efficiently and economically generate solar power on a scale being proposed by AOC and Sanders that’s as cheap as oil. Even with increased use of solar power and other green energy sources, we are going to be dependent on cheap oil for most of our energy needs for the foreseeable future.
