Mexico Sets Up Legal Aid Centers at U.S. Consulates to Assist Illegals

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, left, shakes hands with Mexico's Foreign Relations Secretary Luis Videgaray at the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Mexico City, Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017. Mexico's mounting unease and resentment over President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown are looming over a Thursday meeting between Tillerson, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, and Mexican leaders that the U.S. had hoped would project a strong future for relations between neighbors. The Mexican government has established legal aid centers at each of its 50 U.S. consulates to assist in the defense of illegal aliens who may be targeted for deportation.

It’s hard to imagine a more outrageous, unfriendly act by a foreign government — to assist those in the U.S. illegally in their effort to defy the law.

Reuters:

Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray exhorted the U.S. government to respect the rights of Mexicans and called for the United States to allow a path to legality for undocumented migrants.

“We are not promoting illegality,” Videgaray said, according to a video of an event at the Mexican consulate in New York provided by the foreign ministry, saying that Mexico supported following the law, but that means respecting human rights.

Do they seriously think they are not “promoting illegality” by assisting the defense of those here illegally? And perhaps when Mexico legalizes all residents in their country illegally, the U.S. will follow suit. Until then…

STFU.

“Today we are facing a situation that can paradoxically represent an opportunity, when suddenly a government wants to apply the law more severely,” Videgaray said.

“It is becoming more than evident that to apply the law, which is the obligation of any state, would also imply a real economic damage to this country which highlights the need for immigration reform, an immigration reform that resolves once and for all the legal status of the people,” Videgaray said.

So the U.S. will no longer turn a blind eye to the blatant violation of our laws and this is applying the law “more severely”? And what exactly does that mean? You either enforce the law or you don’t.

Don’t you love Videgaray’s touching concern for our economy? Maybe we’ve got Mexico all wrong. Perhaps they are being forced to accept at the point of a gun all those American companies moving south of the border to avoid U.S. labor and environmental laws. They don’t mean to cause “real economic damage” to the U.S. It just sorta happened.

Late last month, Videgaray expressed “worry and irritation” about Trump’s new policies to U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Homeland Security chief John Kelly when they visited Mexico for talks on immigration and security.

The last thing Trump should worry about is worrying and irritating the Mexicans.

It appears that the Mexican government’s strategy will be to fight tooth and nail to keep as many of their citizens in the U.S. as possible. They will not cooperate in seeing that the deportation of their own citizens takes place with the least amount of inconvenience and suffering for those affected. In fact, the more they can generate pity toward the deportees, the better.
