According to a report from the Census Bureau, “Since Donald Trump was elected and took office through July of 2019, median family incomes, middle-class incomes are up $4,100.” Economist and author Stephen Moore notes that this study proves that the middle class is getting richer faster under Trump than they did for his predecessors.
“In the entire eight years that Obama was president, incomes only budged up about $1,000, so in one-third of the time, Trump has increased income by four times as much. We now have a median income of 65,000 dollars. That shows pretty clearly that the middle-class has been benefiting,” Moore said. This severely undercuts the main theme of the 2020 Democrats’ economic message. For example, Elizabeth Warren said, “America’s middle class is under attack,” when she announced her campaign. Joe Biden said on Thursday that Trump has “eviscerated the middle class.” Well, the middle class is doing better under Trump than it did under the Obama-Biden administration. Suppose for a minute that Joe Biden wins the nomination. How would a presidential debate between them go? Something like this, perhaps:

BIDEN: Trump has eviscerated the middle class!
TRUMP: Actually, according to a census study, the middle class has gotten richer over the past three-and-a-half years than it did during the eight years you were vice president.
BIDEN: Well that’s because of Obama. Thank Obama for that! Obama deserves the credit!
TRUMP: But, you just said the middle class has been eviscerated. Which is it?
BIDEN: Umm… umm…. Go to Joe 30…330?
Moore added, “If these numbers hold up, it’s going to be difficult for any Democrat to beat Donald Trump because he’s proven to be the blue-collar president.”

Moore does warn that “A protracted economic slowdown or recession could reverse Mr. Trump’s advances on jobs and incomes. The trade war is imposing a heavy toll. But for now the median family enjoys its fattest paychecks ever.”
