George Takei, the actor mostly known for portraying Sulu on the original Star Trek series, has developed an app called House of Cats. This is not an app for crazy cat ladies though. This is an app to protest Donald Trump.
“Throughout history, mockery, satire, and lampoons have been a powerful weapon to not only criticize but, in some cases, bring down powerful people,” Takei told VentureBeat. “That’s what we are going to be doing — using his words in the mouth of Trumpy Cat to show how ridiculous he is. We are going to lampoon him out of office.”
I guess Takei realizes that the Mueller investigation has nothing on Trump and figures he has discovered the secret to forcing Trump out of office… a talking cat that looks like Donald Trump.

That’s right, a talking cat (based on Grumpy Cat) that looks like Donald Trump is apparently going to take down the 45th president. The app is available for purchase from the Google Play and Apple App Store. For only 99 cents you can get this otherwise useless app to satisfy your anti-Trump urges.

Ummm. “Mild Sexual Content and Nudity”? Just what exactly does this Trumpy Cat do in Takei’s little app? Considering Trumpy Cat is joined in the app by characters Meowlania, Vladdy Putin and Lil’ Rocket Pug one can only guess what Takei has in mind… and I’m certainly not about to find out. As much as I would have liked to have previewed this app for research purposes, the last thing I’d want to do is support any project of accused rapist George Takei.

But, it is worth noting that VentureBeat did preview the app and found the original release was “buggy and surprisingly limited.” Apparently, the app was built in just a few weeks by a half-dozen engineers.
Still, I’m surprised anyone would spend their hard earned cash to buy the app, even if they are rabidly anti-Trump. Sure, it’s just a dollar, but if Trump haters hate him so much, how long can they be expected to play with an app that features Trump’s likeness and voice? How long are they going to take selfies with Trumpy Cat in augmented reality? I’m guessing not long. Even VentureBeat seems to think 99 cents is too expensive for what the app is trying to achieve.
The idea is that users will participate in the political news of the day by creating their own photos and videos using House of Cats characters. Maybe some political activists will want to buy the app to do just that, but at least in its current iteration, it’s hard to see the wider appeal for most users. If political impact is what Takei was looking for, he should have made the app free.
At the time of this writing, the app, which is only three days old, has nine ratings, all of them five stars. So, for the moment, the app hasn’t gotten old for those willing to fork over 99 cents and support accused rapist George Takei. Perhaps the deal was sweetened by the fact that a whopping one percent of the net profits will be donated to Refugees International. Well, maybe not, since Apple takes thirty percent, leaving seventy cents per download, minus expenses. App development isn’t cheap. So, I doubt Refugees International should expect a check courtesy of Takei at Trump’s expense any time soon. Takei had a better chance of winning Celebrity Apprentice when he was on the show when Trump was good enough for him to compete for his money, back when he called Trump “an open-minded fair-minded person and certainly a savvy businessman.”
Clearly savvier than Takei.
