No, Donald Trump Did Not Posthumously Pardon Charles Manson

Fake news is everywhere. Some of it is put out by people who set out to lie to you. Some of it is put out by people who are only joking. Sometimes those two groups are actually different people. Libs love to complain about fake news, and to this day they still blame it for Hillary Clinton’s spectacular electoral loss. But they’re as susceptible to it as anybody else.

Alex Griswold, Washington Free Beacon:

Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson deleted a tweet in which she fell for a hoax about President Donald Trump pardoning murderer Charles Manson.

“There is something deeply sinister about Trump pardoning Charles Manson, even posthumously,” the spiritual guru wrote in a late-night Sunday tweet. “Dog whistles of the very worst possible kind.”

Apparently Williamson fell for a parody article at something called MoronMajority.com, a site I hadn’t heard of yesterday and won’t remember tomorrow:

From the joke site that isn’t real:

Just days after pardoning three service members convicted, or accused, of war crimes, Donald Trump has issued a posthumous pardon to the convicted cult leader, Charles Manson, who died in prison in 2017.

Asked why he would pardon one of the most hated criminals in American history, Trump replied, “I always thought Charlie got a bum rap. He never killed anyone. It was his followers who committed the crimes.”

Get it?

Then this joke got reposted to Daily Kos with no indication it was satire, and from there somehow it made its way into Marianne Williamson’s brain. She now realizes her mistake, and the good news is the same as the bad news: There’s no way this can hurt her presidential campaign, because she’s never going to get the Democratic nomination anyway.

It also would be embarrassing if anybody had taken her seriously when she said this yesterday:

But nobody took her seriously when she said that. Or anything else.

That said, I genuinely like Williamson as a person. It doesn’t seem fair that she’s been branded a loony, when she’s by far the least harmful lunatic on the Dems’ side. She’s my favorite kind of Democrat, because there’s no danger that she’ll ever have any power over my life.

At least we’ll always have this magic moment:
