Back in the old days, pranksters used to disrupt public events and live newscasts by screaming, “Baba Booey! Baba Booey! Howard Stern’s pen—!” But if you want to break through the public’s cynicism in 2019, if you want your hashtag to start trending, you need to try a little harder. And the young lady you’re about to see is trying very hard indeed.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez held a town hall in Corona, New York at the Queens Public Library on Thursday, which concluded with an alleged constituent in distress yelling, “Eat the babies!”…
“We’re not going to be here for much longer because of the climate crisis! We only have a few months left! I love that you support the Green Deal but getting rid of fossil fuel is not going to solve the problem fast enough.”
“I think your next campaign slogan has to be this, we got to start eating babies.”
After watching the following video, I don’t think Newsweek is being paranoid by referring to this woman as an “alleged constituent”:

This feels like a prank to me. Printing up a “SAVE THE PLANET, EAT THE CHILDREN” t-shirt was just a step too far. Maybe on the back it says, “I KNOW WHO JONATHAN SWIFT WAS!” I don’t know if it’s supposed to be a mockery of climate-change hysteria or climate-change “deniers,” but it really seems like a mockery of something.
#EatTheBabies is now trending, so mission accomplished.
And AOC doesn’t think it’s funny, which just makes it even funnier:
