No, You Don't Need to Defend Roseanne Barr

I was disgusted with Roseanne Barr when being disgusted with Roseanne Barr wasn’t cool. When she posed for pictures dressed like Hitler, putting “Jew cookies” in a kitchen oven, I was repulsed. When she told Christians they’d get cancer for eating Chick-fil-A, I was nauseated. When she ran for president, I had questions. When she sent an online mob after innocent people because she thought George Zimmerman lived at their house, I was outraged. When she displayed physical affection with Tom Arnold in public, I could not believe what I was seeing.

Roseanne is a repugnant loon. It’s been a long time since she didn’t stink. Probably since Bush was president. The first Bush.

Yet when ABC brought back her sitcom after mercy-killing it over 20 years ago, and it turned out to be a smash hit, I was supposed to celebrate because she was owning the libs. She actually said she likes Trump. On network TV! Therefore, all her sins were forgiven, I was told. She was now an ally and I had to defend her at all costs. She was in “our” tribe, and anything she said or did to infuriate “their” tribe was therefore good.

I just don’t think that way. I guess that’s why I’m not a true conservative.

But of course, all that was before the tweet heard ’round the world:

“VJ” meaning Valerie Jarrett.

This is a stupid thing to say, even for Roseanne Barr. It’s a stupid thing to say, even if you don’t reflexively call every criticism of Islam “racist.” It’s a stupid thing to say, even if you didn’t know that one of Jarrett’s great-grandfathers was black. It’s a stupid thing to say, even if you like the Planet of the Apes movies and think they’re the good guys.

There are so many legitimate reasons to criticize a chronic liar and heartless slumlord like Valerie Jarrett. She’s a bad person, and her personal relationship with the Obama family is unsettling, to say the least. She’s awful for so many real-world reasons, without having to make $#!+ up. Roseanne isn’t just an insane racist, she’s just plain lazy.

Roseanne has said and done a lot of stupid things over the past 30 years, but this time she really jumped on the third rail. Within hours, ABC had canceled her highly rated, highly lucrative show. The same people who brought back Roseanne, knowing full well the woman they were dealing with, are now being hailed as #woke heroes for canceling it.

Did you know ABC’s first black woman president, Channing Dungey, brought back #Roseanne in the first place? Yep.

Now, that’s not to excuse the double standard here. But that’s a given. If it weren’t for double standards, libs would have no standards at all. If Barr were an outspoken supporter of Hillary Clinton and said something similarly insane and bigoted about somebody in the Trump administration, the same people now condemning her would be defending her.

But it would still be wrong. You don’t have to be like them. You really don’t.

If you’re genuinely outraged that a Trump-supporting celebrity was fired over the racist garbage she spews, I can’t make you think about what you’re doing and who you’re defending. I’m just telling you what will happen if you think twice and let it go:

Nothing.

Nothing bad will happen to you if you just let Roseanne waddle back into the shadows again. Nothing of value has been lost. You’re not “letting the libs get away with it,” or whatever rationalization you’re using. She blew it, and it’s nobody’s fault but her own.

Let the rest of Hollywood pat themselves on the back for putting a dagger in hers. Let them signal their virtue to the other members of their tribe. If they weren’t corrupt, unethical hypocrites, they wouldn’t be in Hollywood in the first place. You lose nothing by being better than them.

Or, you know what? Forget everything I just said. Ethics are for cuck RINO NeverTrumpers anyway. Never mind.
