The floodgates burst open Monday night when President Trump announced his selection of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to be his second Supreme Court justice appointment and liberal tears spilled out all over the internet.
Twitter, as always, was the best place to look for unhinged histrionics from the left.
Here are some of the best reactions of “the Resistance” on Twitter:
- Terry McAuliffe: Lives will be threatened!
Former Virginia governor and Clinton crony Terry McAuliffe is pretty sure people are going to die if Judge Kavanaugh, a Catholic charities volunteer, parish lector, and girls’ basketball coach, gets on the court.
The nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh will threaten the lives of millions of Americans for decades to come and will morph our Supreme Court into a political arm of the right-wing Republican Party.

Did I mention this man was once the governor of Virginia?
- Chris Murphy: He’s a radical, you guys!
Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) calls the mainstream constitutional jurist “a true Second Amendment radical” who is “way outside of the judicial mainstream.”
Brett Kavanaugh is a true Second Amendment radical. He believes assault weapon bans are unconstitutional, a position way out of the judicial mainstream, far to the right of even late Justice Scalia.

National Review’s court watcher, Ed Whelan, begs to differ:
Judge Kavanaugh, 53 years old, has compiled an outstanding record during his twelve years on the federal court of appeals in D.C. On what is commonly regarded as the second-most-important court in the country, he has confronted a vast array of consequential constitutional and statutory issues and has written strong, influential opinions. His positions in numerous dissents were later adopted by Supreme Court majorities.
- Bernie Sanders: “Reactionary nominee” will be rubberstamp for “extreme, right-wing agenda pushed by corporations and billionaires.” We gotsta “mobilize!”
President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh will be a rubber-stamp for an extreme, right-wing agenda pushed by corporations and billionaires. We must mobilize the American people to defeat Trump’s right-wing, reactionary nominee.

I doubt even Karl Marx himself sounded this stridently Marxist during his heyday.
- Nancy Pelosi: nomination is “a destructive tool” that will “radically reverse the course of American justice & democracy”:
.@realDonaldTrump is using this nomination as a destructive tool on a generation of progress for workers, women, LGBTQ people, communities of color & families, & to radically reverse the course of American justice & democracy. #WhatsAtStake #StopKavanaugh https://t.co/lUDbzInQZ3 pic.twitter.com/oq6954uChh

Yikes, that sounds really bad. Are we sure we’re talking about the same man? Church lector, tutor, volunteer who serves meals to the homeless, kids’ basketball coach?
- NAACP: Civil rights are under attack!
Civil rights, women’s rights, LGBT rights, health care are all under attack. We’ve seen Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s record and we demand no new SCOTUS justice until after a new Senate is seated in 2019. – @PeopleFor #StandUpFightBack #ScotusPick #SaveSCOTUS

Yawn. Crybullies pretending they’re oppressed. What else is old?
- Women’s March: We just knew Trump’s pick would be “openly hostile” to women with a “dangerous, anti-woman track record”:
THREAD: We knew Trump would nominate a #SCOTUS justice openly hostile to a women’s right to choose—it was one of his primary campaign promises. We were ready for anything, but here’s why Kavanaugh is especially dangerous…#DefendRoe #SaveSCOTUS

Trump just announced Brett Kavanaugh as his pick for #SCOTUS, a supposed “moderate” with a dangerous anti-woman track record.
There is nothing moderate about stripping rights away from women.
Take action. Tell your Senators to #DefendRoe. https://t.co/ZgYBcswHVZ

They were so sure a conservative president was going to nominate a conservative, they drafted a statement before President Trump even made his announcement:
Oh my lord this is hilarious. @womensmarch drafted a statement before @realDonaldTrump even announced his pick and they forgot to insert Kavanaugh’s name before sending it out. Absolutely hilarious partisanship on display. (H/t @AlexPappas) pic.twitter.com/aSTmvuiPr1

Well, I guess they’d better dust off those vagina hats and take to the streets. There’s nothing the voting public likes better than seeing a bunch of angry feminists in vagina get-ups screeching about their abortion rights in the streets. Better get to it, ladies!
