Multiple Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) leaders are openly endorsing communism on social media, indicating that the already far-left organization has taken a sharp left turn.
DSA has seen its ranks swell from 8,000 to over 42,000 dues-paying members since President Donald Trump was elected. In November of 2017, 15 DSA members were elected in school board, city council, alderman and other local races across the country, joining 20 other DSA members already in office.
The party got a major boost last Tuesday when DSA-endorsed candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ousted 10-term incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley in New York’s 14th Congressional District.
When DSA was founded in the 1980s, its leaders claimed to be opposed to the Marxist-Leninist brand of socialism, working instead toward a movement that combined a “belief in a socially owned economy with that of political democracy.”
Since the election of President Trump, however, the group has become increasingly radicalized, with leaders openly calling for violence against the president and members of the GOP, as Far Left Watch reports:
This far-left political organization previously made headlines when leadership from their Iowa State campus chapter encouraged people to shoot president Trump and when leadership from their University of Georgia Chapter called for the execution of house GOP members.
Now multiple leaders of the party around the country are signalling that the party’s former opposition to communism is no longer operative. The DSA members on Twitter are openly endorsing an ideology that left an estimated 100 million dead in the 20th century.
Olivia Katbi Smith, who is the co-chair of the Portland DSA chapter, tweeted the following message on Saturday:

Since her win, the MSM has treated Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez like a socialist rock star, lavishing her with fawning, highly favorable coverage. What are the chances that the fawning legacy media that has treated Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez like a socialist rock star since her upset last week will ask her about the party’s sudden embrace of communism? Approximately zero?
But even without the legacy media’s support, Cortez would likely be elected in the deeply blue district, which comprises parts of Queens and the Bronx.
To quote recently discharged “Commie Cadet” Spenser Rapone “Communism will win” — at least in New York’s 14th Congressional District.
