William Harris, one of the best historians who has written about modern Lebanon, reminds us that a nuclear Iran may not be containable, that if Tehran acquires the world’s worst weapons, its terrorist proxy Hezbollah might acquire them also.

Part of me resists this analysis and wants to believe that wouldn’t actually happen, but I won’t soon forget what Christopher Hitchens saw when he attended a Hezbollah rally in the suburbs south of Beirut last year.
“A huge poster of a nuclear mushroom cloud surmounts the scene,” he wrote in Vanity Fair, “with the inscription OH ZIONISTS, IF YOU WANT THIS TYPE OF WAR THEN SO BE IT!”
Wherever the Middle East is heading right now, I don’t have that warm fuzzy feeling that it will end well.
