Jessica Tarlov wants you to believe that the Democratic Socialists of America are just a rowdy fringe group hanging around the edges of the Democrat Party. Watching her defend that line on The Five on Thursday, you have to wonder whether she actually believes it or just says dumb things because that’s what she’s paid to do.
For some context, last month, DSA co-chair Megan Romer sat down with Shannon Bream on Fox News Sunday and laid out exactly what her movement wants for America: abolish the U.S. Senate, axe the presidency and the Supreme Court, mass amnesty, reparations, and a whole boatload of other silly things. This is the platform of the DSA, which is slowly taking over the Democrat Party.

But Tarlov is dismissing the rise of DSA candidates and called Romer’s interview “catnip for everybody that is concerned about the rise of the DSA wing."
She also dismissed the growing alarm over socialist candidates as nothing more than Republican theater. "If the DSA representatives who are in elections won every single one of them, it would still be under 10% of the caucus. That's the reality here."
Then there's Abdul El-Sayed, the DSA-backed candidate Tarlov tried hardest to distance from the label. "Abdul El-Sayed, who is going to have a very tough road ahead of him, doesn't even affiliate with the DSA and identifies as a capitalist," she claimed.
Sorry, but that's not a defense. That's a dodge, and a lazy one. El-Sayed has headlined six separate DSA fundraisers. He has cashed the checks and taken the stage at the group's own events.

Why is Tarlov playing this game? We’re not talking about one election cycle. We’re not even talking about just candidates; we’re talking about the Democrat Party as a whole. And Tarlov knows it as well as anyone in that building. She’s desperately trying to pretend that the socialists are just a fringe element of the party, when a recent CBS poll found 58% of Democrats view socialism positively. Only 18% view it negatively. In fact, Democrats are the only group in America that view socialism positively. The rest of the country still prefers capitalism, which is precisely why Tarlov keeps reaching for the word "capitalist" to launder El-Sayed's résumé.
"So while Republicans, and I understand why you're doing it, are spending all their time running clips of this... feeding it and feeding it and feeding it," she said.
She closed out her segment predicting a Democrat wave regardless. "So you can keep talking about this until you're blue in the face, but the country will go blue while you are doing it," she said.

Cute line. All I see is a woman panicking about how Republicans are going to be linking Democrats nationwide to socialism. And I think it’s obvious that she knows it’s going to work.
