Leftism didn’t just fail Iryna Zarutska—it killed her. Her murder isn’t an isolated tragedy; it’s a stark indictment of a nation hollowed out by dangerous ideology. A partisan justice system let a violent repeat offender roam free. A major political party that pushed pro-crime policies under the guise of “equity.” And a media establishment that tried hard to bury the story because it didn’t fit their preferred narrative.
These failures might have stayed buried if not for conservative media shining a spotlight—and now the White House is stepping in. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt didn’t mince words, calling out the truth exactly as it is.
“This monster should have been locked up and Iryna should still be alive,” she said, blasting “Democrat politicians, liberal judges, and weak prosecutors” who chose to virtue signal rather than protect their communities.
Leavitt then turned her fire on the media. “Perhaps most shamefully of all, the majority of the media, many outlets in this room, decided that her murder was not worth reporting on originally because it does not fit a preferred narrative.” She reminded reporters that the same outlets went all-in smearing Daniel Penny for defending subway passengers in New York. “Many of the journalists in this room spilled plenty of ink trying to smear Daniel Penny for defending a subway car from a deranged lunatic in New York City, but none of those same reporters lift a finger to write stories about an actual murderer.”
She tied Zarutska’s death directly to Democrat-backed policies like cashless bail. “Here is the truth that every American must know. Too many innocent people across the country continue to pay the price of the failed experiment known as cashless bail that has been championed by the Democrat Party for years.” She reminded reporters that this agenda was codified in North Carolina under former Gov. Roy Cooper and then–Attorney General Josh Stein, who recommended eliminating cash bail and de-emphasizing felonies in the name of “racial equity.”

Leavitt rightly called out the justice system, elected Democrats, and the press, yet the rot goes beyond politics. Zarutska’s final moments exposed something far more chilling: a society so numbed by fear and indifference that basic humanity has withered away. As I wrote previously, in the immediate aftermath of the stabbing, the witnesses closest to her refused to act, even as it was obvious she was in grave distress. Passengers sat frozen in their seats, watching a young woman bleed to death. That silence, that refusal to act, speaks to a deeper brokenness in our culture. And in another video, filmed moments later as a few finally tried to help, one man stood idly by—not to save her, but to record her last moments on his phone.
Everything about this case is horrific, and every road leads back to the poison of leftism. A justice system twisted by “equity” rather than justice. A Democratic Party that champions criminals at the expense of innocent lives. A media machine that hides inconvenient truths to protect its narrative. And a culture hollowed out by decades of leftist rot, leaving people too apathetic to defend their neighbor in need. Iryna Zarutska should be alive today, but leftist policies, priorities, and propaganda cleared the path to her death. Her murder isn’t just a tragedy—it’s a damning indictment of what happens when leftism is allowed to rule.
