The Iran Crisis Is the Obama and Biden Legacy

The growing conflict between Iran and Israel isn’t some sudden flare-up or unpredictable development—it’s the direct result of years of disastrous foreign policy from Barack Obama and Joe Biden. This crisis is their legacy. For over a decade, these two administrations have emboldened Iran, enriched its regime, and turned a blind eye to its terror campaigns—all in the name of securing a so-called “historic” nuclear deal that never had a prayer of stopping Iran from getting the bomb.

From day one, Obama’s Iran nuclear deal was a fraud. Obama promised it would block Tehran’s path to nuclear weapons. In reality, it did nothing of the sort. Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif admitted it openly while the deal was still being negotiated: “We did not agree to dismantle anything.” He even accused Obama of deliberately mischaracterizing the agreement. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani put it more bluntly: “World powers surrendered to Iranian nation’s will.” Iran never changed its goals. It simply watched as the Obama administration handed over billions and looked the other way.

That “deal” lifted sanctions, gave Iran access to $150 billion in frozen assets, and came with a secretive $400 million cash ransom payment for hostages. Even Obama’s Secretary of State John Kerry admitted that the windfall would go toward terrorism, saying, “some of [the money] will end up in the hands of the IRGC or other entities, some of which are labeled terrorists.” That didn’t stop the Obama administration—it only proved how far they were willing to go to appease a hostile regime. Heck, even Obama conceded the deal would not prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

The inspection regime Obama promised was just as weak. Americans were told inspections would be “anywhere, anytime,” but in reality, Iran blocked access to military sites and delayed inspections for weeks at a time. By 2019, Iran was already operating advanced centrifuges banned under the deal, speeding toward weapons-grade uranium. The whole thing was a sham—and everyone knew it.

Obama’s appeasement of Iran didn’t stop there. While Iran plotted a major terror attack on U.S. soil in 2011, the Obama administration refused to respond. The Quds Force planned to bomb a D.C. restaurant in what could have been the deadliest attack since 9/11, but the plot failed only because they mistakenly hired an undercover DEA agent. Obama’s failure to retaliate sent a clear message to Iran: America under his leadership wouldn’t fight back.

When Biden returned to the White House as the autopen president, he picked up right where he and Obama left off—reviving the same failed appeasement strategy that empowered Iran in the first place. His administration tried to reenter the broken nuclear deal and handed over billions in sanctions relief, all while Iran accelerated its uranium enrichment, bankrolled terror networks, and ramped up threats against our allies. And now we’re living with the consequences.

Israel is doing what has to be done to neutralize the threat that Obama and Biden helped unleash, while President Trump is once again left to clean up the mess they made. This crisis didn’t erupt out of nowhere—it was the inevitable result of years of weakness, capitulation, and willful blindness. At every turn, Obama and Biden chose to appease Iran while undermining America’s allies in the region.

Make no mistake: Israel and Trump will bring this conflict to an end. But the crisis itself—that’s the Obama-Biden legacy.
