The Democratic Party Is in the Worst Shape It’s Ever Been

It’s been glaringly obvious for a while now: the Democratic Party has lurched so far left that it no longer represents mainstream America. This radical transformation has pushed the party to a breaking point—one they either fail to recognize or arrogantly refuse to acknowledge. As a result, the party is arguably in its worst shape ever, and the cracks are only growing wider.

Former RNC Chairman Reince Priebus certainly sees it. During a discussion on ABC’s “This Week,” he bluntly laid out the reality: the Democratic Party isn’t just struggling—it’s completely out of step with normal Americans.

“The Democrats have found themselves on the wrong side of normal,” Priebus warned, pointing to their ideological extremism as a major factor in their decline. He argued that the 2024 election wasn’t simply a rejection of the Democrats as the “establishment” party—it was something much worse.

“In spite of all the challenges that Donald Trump had, court cases, all the ups, the American people said, ‘I identify more with Donald Trump than I do with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz,’” Priebus explained. “They’re on the wrong side of all these cultural issues. Until they get that straight…progressivism on the left is dead.”

Kamala Harris’s campaign serves as the perfect case study in Democratic dysfunction. While she obsessively pandered with race-based policies, she ignored the issues that actually matter to voters—soaring inflation, border security, and economic uncertainty. Her failure was staggering: she pulled in 7 million fewer votes than Biden did in 2020 and flopped in key swing states. Even more damning, Harris lost 80% of counties nationwide—an undeniable signal that voters are rejecting the Democrats’ radical agenda.

Polling data makes it crystal clear. A Noble Predictive Insights poll found that 59% of Americans support a federal ban on sex-change procedures for minors, while a Marquette Law School survey revealed that 63% of adults believe there are only two sexes. These numbers don’t lie—the American people have had enough of the Democrats’ out-of-touch, extremist social policies. And the Trump campaign made sure voters understood the stakes, driving the message home with an ad declaring, “Kamala is for they/them, President Trump is for you.”

If the Democrats have any hope of survival, they’ll need to overhaul both their messaging and their policies. But let’s be honest—will they? Priebus suggested that left-wing populism still has a chance,  but “progressivism” as we know it is finished.

Frankly, I don’t know why Priebus is even bothering to give them advice. As much as it would be nice to have a sane Democratic Party, they don't seem to be learning any lessons from the 2024 election. But there’s something undeniably satisfying about watching a party so consumed by its own radicalism face the consequences. Republicans may only have small majorities in the House and Senate, but Democrats clearly have no path to relevance in the next elections.
