In the Wake of Terror Attacks, Delaying Trump’s Nominees Is Not an Option

The new year has started on a grim note, with a terror attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans claiming at least ten lives and injuring dozens. The suspect, reportedly inspired by ISIS, used firearms and an improvised explosive device in the assault. Another suspected terror attack occurred in Las Vegas, where a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump Hotel. Both incidents underscore America’s vulnerabilities and the urgent need for strong leadership as President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take office.

The explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck outside the entrance of the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas is currently under investigation as a potential terror attack.

The attack on Bourbon Street was carried out by a suspect who reportedly carried an ISIS flag and utilized both firearms and an improvised explosive device, yet the FBI hesitated to label the attack as terrorism. They did eventually confirm its connection to ISIS—well after the public had already figured it out. This delay highlights a troubling lack of urgency and coordination in addressing terror threats—something Trump’s incoming administration is poised to rectify. Trump’s nominees, particularly Kash Patel for FBI director, are well-equipped to confront these challenges, but their confirmations face the threat of partisan obstruction.

On Saturday, just a day before the attacks, Trump urged Senate Republicans to stand firm against Democratic efforts to stall his nominees, emphasizing the mandate he received from voters. The terror attacks are a tragic reminder that national security cannot wait for political games. Trump’s message on Truth Social was clear: swift action is necessary to protect the nation and fulfill the trust voters have placed in him.

Senator-elect Bernie Moreno has echoed the call for urgency, stressing the importance of having Trump’s national security team in place by January 20.

Moreno criticized Democrats for rubber stamping Joe Biden’s unqualified nominees, contrasting it with the anticipated resistance to Trump’s picks. “There’s never been a worse cabinet in American history than Joe Biden’s cabinet, and yet not one Democratic senator said peep about whether this person was qualified or not—people [like] Mayor Pete [Buttigieg], Jake Sullivan, [Alejandro] Mayorkas– all just grossly unqualified people and terrible disasters. Then, most importantly, every single one of them voted for every single one of Biden’s nominees,” he told Breitbart News in December.

The attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas are stark warnings. Delaying Trump’s nominees not only risks leaving America vulnerable but also disregards the voters’ demand for a secure and effective government. It’s time for Democrats to set partisanship aside and prioritize the nation’s safety.
