Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) took to the Senate floor recently to deliver a pointed critique of Democrats’ unwavering unity and called for Republicans to emulate that level of cohesion.
Tuberville’s message was clear: Republicans must adopt a united front if they want to advance the America First policies that resonate with millions of voters. “A majority of voters decided that the America First agenda championed by Donald Trump and J.D. Vance is the playbook for American greatness,” he said. “As a part of that playbook, President Trump has already put together a strong, very strong list of qualified cabinet members.”
First, he brought up Pete Hegseth, Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Defense. Tuberville noted that Hegseth is a veteran with two combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, a businessman, and an Ivy League graduate. Tuberville argued, “That’s what we need in the Pentagon right now to restore order and our finances.”
Then there was Trump’s pick to lead the Health and Human Services Department, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who, Tuberville pointed out, “single-handedly brought attention to the many public health crises facing Americans.”
“He's Harvard-educated, has authored multiple books, and has a four-decade career in public health and environmental law,” he added.
But it’s Trump’s pick for Attorney General that has sent the left into craziness overdrive. Tuberville described Matt Gaetz as “a qualified attorney who has served in Congress for nearly a decade.”
While Gaetz’s vocal advocacy for constitutional rights and his scrutiny of the politicization of government agencies under Joe Biden have made him a lightning rod, Tuberville defended the pick, stating, “Matt Gaetz has been a warrior for the Constitution on the Judiciary Committee and has exposed the weaponization of the justice system of the DOJ.”
The senator didn’t mince words about why these nominations are drawing fierce opposition. “Ask yourself, ‘Why are my Democratic colleagues, the media, and the establishment losing their minds over these highly qualified nominees?’” Tuberville said. The answer, he argued, lies in their disdain for Trump, the America First movement, and the nearly 80 million Americans who voted for his return to the White House.
Tuberville pointed out the broader implications of this resistance, claiming, “It’s obvious panic has set in at the DOJ, the intelligence community, and the entire D.C. swamp. They’re finding out, as Barack Obama said, that elections have consequences.”
Sen. Tommy Tuberville just threw down the gauntlet, defending by name Matt Gaetz, Pete Hegseth, and RFK Jr. from the Senate floor — all while standing in front of a sign that reads:

But what struck me the most was not what Tuberville said; it was the poster he was standing next to. It read, "Number of Democrats who voted AGAINST Biden's 21 Cabinet Nominees: 0."
Gaetz has already withdrawn from consideration, and while that may be related to the unproven allegations against him that even Joe Biden's Department of Justice didn't find credible, it may also be that Senate Republicans weren't going to support him anyway. Democrat presidents can get any of their nominees confirmed without opposition from their party, yet the narrative anytime there's a Republican president is that this nominee and that nominee are so controversial and may not get confirmed, even when the GOP has the majority. There's also a whole problem with recess appointments.
We need a party that will stand up to the Democrats and unite behind its president and its president's nominees.
