Here's How Trump and the GOP Can Protect Women's Sports

In January, Donald Trump will take office with a Republican majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate. This presents the GOP with an opportunity to do something to protect women’s sports, and they shouldn’t miss this opportunity. Trump has certainly hinted this is part of his second term's agenda. During a Fox News town hall hosted by Harris Faulkner, Trump was asked about this very issue, and promised that he would ban men from playing women's sports.

"How do you plan on addressing the transgender issue in women's sports?" a woman asked him. "I have nine grandchildren, six of them female, all playing sports, and we are very concerned for their safety, not just on the field and the courts, but in their locker rooms as well."

"It's such an easy question, and everybody in the room and you know that answer," he said. "We're not gonna let it happen."

"So how do you stop it?" Harris Faulkner asked. "Do you go to the sports leagues? Do you go to the Olympics?"

"You just ban it," Trump said. "The president bans it. You just don't let it happen. Not a big deal."

But executive action won't fix the problem. As written, Title IX clearly applies to biological sex, with no mention of “gender identity,” “gender expression,” or any other insane concepts introduced by left-wing gender ideology. For decades, Title IX has been vital in leveling the playing field in sports and education, protecting opportunities for women, and ensuring they receive fair treatment. But back in April, Joe Biden, following in Barack Obama’s footsteps, unilaterally altered Title IX by redefining it to treat “gender identity” the same as biological sex. This reinterpretation allowed biological males to compete in women’s sports, qualify for women’s scholarships, and gain access to female-only locker rooms, private spaces, and single-sex housing.

Thankfully, a federal judge in Texas, who called Biden's effort an "unlawful action," shut that move down. But that won’t stop future Democrat presidents from trying. Now, the Republican Party has the opportunity to codify the original intent of Title IX by defining the law according to biological sex and only biological sex.

This move isn’t just an opportunity for the GOP; it’s a pivotal moment for the Democratic Party as well. Many Americans—parents, athletes, and coaches alike—are concerned about the future of women’s sports, and polling shows broad public support for policies that keep biological males out of female competitions.

If Democrats back Republican-led efforts to strengthen Title IX, it would signal to voters that they’re listening to these concerns and willing to protect women’s rights in sports. It would be a rejection of the radical gender ideology that has been pushed by the far-left wing, aligning the party more closely with the values of everyday Americans who see this issue as one of basic fairness and integrity.

And some Democrats already appear to be willing to do so.

“I have two little girls. I don’t want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete, but as a Democrat, I’m supposed to be afraid to say that,” Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) told the New York Times.

Tom Suozzi (D-N.Y.) echoed that sentiment.

“The Democrats have to stop pandering to the far left,” he said. “I don't want to discriminate against anybody, but I don't think biological boys should be playing in girls' sports.”

So there's clearly a chance to do this, and to do it right in a bipartisan fashion.
