Trump Isn’t the Only Republican That Dems Are Trying to Boot Off Ballots

It’s painfully ironic the way Democrats have anointed themselves as protectors of “our democracy,” yet almost everything they do is contradictory to the principles they purport to champion. Fearing Trump’s return to the White House, they’ve seemed to have given up on trying to beat him at the ballot box and are trying every imaginable scheme to thwart his presidential bid. They’ve abused and weaponized the legal system and even waged a multi-state effort to boot him off the ballot.

Left-wing groups have launched efforts in various states seeking to eliminate Donald Trump from their state ballots, citing Section Three of the 14th Amendment as justification. Their efforts are based on the idea that Trump is guilty of sedition or participating in an insurrection and ineligible to be president, even though he has never been tried or convicted.

While the majority of state courts have dismissed these efforts, five rogue leftists — four on the Colorado State Supreme Court and the Maine Secretary of State — have legitimized this weaponization of ballot access, likely setting up the Supreme Court to weigh in.

But this issue is bigger than Trump. While the battle over Trump's ballot access gets the headlines, Democrats nationwide are seeking to remove other Republicans from the ballot under the same bogus pretext being used against Trump.

In Pennsylvania, former congressional candidate Gene Stilp, a rabid anti-Trump leftist, has launched an effort to bar Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) from the ballot. It's blatantly anti-democratic, yet constitutional expert Jonathan Turley notes in the New York Post that Democrat members of Congress support these efforts.

"Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) sought to bar 126 members of Congress under the same theory for challenging the election before Jan. 6, 2021," Turley writes. "Similar legislation from Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) to disqualify members got 63 co-sponsors, all Democrats, including New York Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jamaal Bowman and Ritchie Torres and “Squad” members Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan."

Also troubling is how only three members of Congress from Maine condemned their state's Secretary of State for unilaterally barring Trump from the state ballot — Sens. Angus King (I), Susan Collins (R), and Rep. Jared Golden (D) — but the rest supported it. Yet as Turley points out, "The grounds were virtually identical to those of Stilp."

For every Democrat action, there's an equal, if not greater, hypocrisy. "Of course, he ignores Democratic members who sought to block certification of Republican presidents under the very same law with no factual or legal basis," observes Turley. "He accuses Perry of supporting challenges to Biden’s election and opposing its certification."

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) praised the effort then-Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) organized to challenge the certification of President George W. Bush’s 2004 re-election. Jan. 6 committee head Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) voted to challenge it in the House. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) sought to block certification of the 2016 election result — particularly ironic since he’s a leading voice calling for Trump to be disqualified.

These Democrats insist that they are protecting democracy, but they would rather remove the choices available to the voters than trust the voters to make the decision that is in their best interests.
