Here We Go Again: The 'Worse Than Trump’ Gambit Returns

The radical left may be panicking that Donald Trump seems on the verge of returning to the White House, but that’s not stopping them from looking ahead and pretty much deeming every Republican just as bad, if not worse.

Despite some recent mistakes in her campaign, Nikki Haley is reportedly under consideration by Trump to be his running mate. I’ve long believed that Nikki Haley’s campaign has been an audition to be Trump’s running mate, and considering her strength in matchup polling against Joe Biden, there may be some strategic sense to it. Polls have shown Haley performing better against Biden than any other Republican. In theory, considering Trump’s current dominance in the polls and Haley’s strength against Biden, it would be a ticket that Democrats ought to be terrified of.

Naturally, the “Haley is worse than Trump” brigade has started to form. In an interview on TMZ Live on Friday, disgraced former CNN anchor Don Lemon expressed his concern about Nikki Haley, saying that she may be "much more dangerous than" another Trump presidency.

Lemon even claimed, "I'd rather Donald Trump not be the president of the United States again, but it's the devil you know, in many ways."

What exactly makes Haley "more dangerous” than Trump, you ask? According to Lemon, "at least you know where Donald Trump stands on issues, and we have lived through a Donald Trump presidency. No one knows what Nikki Haley will do, especially when it comes to a woman’s right to choose, when it comes to racism in this country, and when it comes to supporting someone who inspired insurrection in this country."

Can you hear my eyes rolling?

It’s hard to take rhetoric like this seriously when this it what the radical left does all the time. When Ron DeSantis announced his candidacy, we were treated to a chorus of accusations that a DeSantis presidency would be even "worse than Trump."

This, of course, isn’t new to this cycle. During Trump’s first term, when Mike Pence was largely seen as the heir apparent to the Republican nomination, we were treated to the “worse than Trump” mantra as well. George Will  insisted that that Pence was the “worst person in government.” Remember Omarosa Manigault Newman? Well, she said on an episode of "Celebrity Big Brother" that “we would be begging for days of Trump back if Pence became president.” The left may not be in love with Pence today, but I dare say they don’t think so poorly of him now.

The same goes for Mitt Romney. He isn’t making many friends in the Republican Party today, but there are plenty of people on the left who find him quite palatable now. But when he sought to unseat Barack Obama from the presidency in 2012, he was the second coming of Hitler, worse than George W. Bush, the previous Republican president. Back then, everyone on the left hated him and compared him to Hitler.

And then there’s John McCain. Once the left’s favorite Republican, back when he was running for president against Barack Obama he was also compared to Hitler and deemed “worse than” George W. Bush. Even now, many on the left admit that things weren’t so bad with George W. Bush in the White House. But back then, it was eight years of comparing Bush to Hitler.

Anyone who is deemed a threat to the Democrats’ power is considered worse than the last and equated to Hitler. It’s just what they do. Clearly, Lemon is concerned about Haley in some capacity. Is she a contender for the GOP nomination? I wouldn't say that, but her strong polling against Biden nevertheless makes her a threat, and so we're now being told that she, like DeSantis, would be worse than Trump. At this rate, by the the 2032 election, Democrats are going to be nostalgic for Donald Trump.
