(AP Photo/Susan Walsh)

Good Thursday morning.

  • The President meets with the Secretary of Defense
  • President Trump meets with the Secretary of Agriculture, Senator Pat Roberts, and Representative Mike Conaway
  • The President hosts a rally with supporters in Elkhart, IN

Trump greets hostages when they arrive in U.S.

President Trump, First Lady Melania and VP Mike Pence greeted three hostages very early Thursday morning as they returned from their North Korean imprisonment. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo escorted the men home.

A motorcade was waiting to take the three Korean-American detainees — Kim Dong Chul, Kim Hak Song and Tony Kim — to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for physical examinations.

The White House said earlier they would be evaluated and receive medical treatment at the Washington-area facility. Their families were not on hand for the ceremony.

“This is a special night for these three really great people,” Trump told reporters as he stood on the tarmac.

“We would like to express our deep appreciation to the United States government, President Trump, Secretary Pompeo, and the people of the United States for bringing us home,” the three freed hostages said in an earlier statement released by the State Department.

The anticipated meeting between the U.S. and North Korea is expected to take place in Singapore early next month.

A large crowd gathers to witness the book burning, Buecherverbrennung, at Opera Square in Berlin, Germany on May 10, 1933. Students threw a thousand torches on the bonfire and seized “un-German” books from trucks and hurled them into the blaze amid cheers. The chosen books included writings of some of Germany’s best-known authors, as well as foreign writers. (AP Photo)
