Kanye West's Mind Hit

If you have been following the media (and how can you avoid it), you know by now that Kanye West is a Trump supporter. He seems to be all over the place with his politics, but maybe that proves he is just showing his individuality as he claims:

West proclaimed that the mob ‘can’t make me not love’ Trump and praised the President’s ‘dragon energy’.

‘You don’t have to agree with trump but the mob can’t make me not love him,’ he wrote.

‘We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does. That’s what makes us individuals.’

Good for Kanye. I’m glad he likes Trump, but his support for Trump is more than just an individual liking the president and some of his policies. It is a “mind hit” to a society full of collectivists who can’t tolerate any deviancy from their herd, lest others leave too.

What is a “mind hit,” you ask? I first learned the term in a self-defense class when the instructor told the class to act quickly and aggressively, which is not the normal script that a perpetrator has in mind. The criminal thinks that most people will give in readily and do as they are told — but if the script is changed, he doesn’t know what to do. He may not be able to get what he wants: a wallet, jewelry, your stuff, your life, etc. This is a “mind hit,” a change in plans that leads to the perp losing his power.

This mind hit that Kanye gave liberals with his support of Trump is why they are in such an uproar. They thought guys like Kanye were a sure thing. And why wouldn’t they? In the 2008 election, 95 percent of the black vote went to Obama and in 2012 it was 93 percent. But what if things are changing? What if blacks abandon the Democratic Party?

What if this mind hit also changes the minds of other black men (or women) who realize that the Democratic party is not looking out for them, but rather placating them for votes while doing little to help?

Thanks to Kanye for the wake-up call and for allowing for the possibility that not all black voters are Democrats. His voice may be the one that changes the playing field.
