Continuing a plan to get through the entire Bible in a year, follow as I journal through the reading. I have chosen a straightforward approach that begins in Genesis and ends in Revelation. This will not be an in-depth study or a comprehensive commentary. There are plenty of sources for such material. This is stage one Bible reading, taking the text at face value and sharing impressions.
Today’s reading comes from the book of Deuteronomy, chapters 3 and 4, as Moses’ historical account emphasizes the glorification of God. Some impressions from the text:
- Chapters 3 and 4 continue Moses recount of Israel’s journey through the wilderness.
- The highlights include the many ways in which God displayed his uniqueness. The battles he won. The miracles he performed. The covenant he kept.
- In Deuteronomy 3:23-29, Moses appears to reference a continuing prayer struggle with the Lord over his having been barred from entering the Promised Land. Moses begged God to reconsider, to the point where he was finally told, “‘Enough from you; do not speak to me of this matter again.”
- Moses’ message to Israel is simple: obey God and prosper. Recognize who He is, and give him the glory he has earned by virtue of his being. Do not betray him by giving his glory to another, whatever form such an idol might take.
