Daily Bible Reflection 10/1

Continuing a plan to get through the entire Bible in a year, follow as I journal through the reading. I have chosen a straightforward approach that begins in Genesis and ends in Revelation. This will not be an in-depth study or a comprehensive commentary. There are plenty of sources for such material. This is stage one Bible reading, taking the text at face value and sharing impressions.

Today’s reading comes from the book of Exodus, chapters 39 and 40, placing finishing touches on the tabernacle. Some impressions from the text:

  • The grandeur of the tabernacle was reflected in the garb worn by Aaron and his fellow priests. As mediators between the people of Israel and their God, the priests were expected to dress in a manner reflective of God’s glory.
  • “So Moses finished the work.” All which God had commissioned in regard to the building of the tabernacle and its utensils was accomplished, precisely as God had instructed. Despite their rebellion, in this Israel proved faithful.
  • The tabernacle served as a physical stage for the presence of God among the Israelite encampment. They moved when the cloud of God’s presence moved, and thus literally followed Him throughout the wilderness. We may not have a physical cloud or pillar of fire leading us today, but our purpose as disciples is still to follow wherever God leads.

Return soon as we continue our year-long journey through the text of the Bible.
