Trump Goes Full Democrat on Terror Watch List Gun Purchase Issue

Ladies and Gentlemen, your presumptive Republican-ish nominee:

Donald Trump continues to diverge with the rest of the GOP on issues of gun control, reaffirming in an interview to air Sunday that those on the terror watch list shouldn’t be able to buy guns.

“We have to make sure that people that are terrorists or have even an inclination toward terrorism cannot buy weapons, guns,” the presumptive Republican nominee said in an interview to air Sunday on “This Week.”

When asked if his position is that those on the terror watch list shouldn’t be able to purchase a gun, Trump responded, “I’d like to see that, and I’d like to say it. And it’s simpler. It’s just simpler.”

Since it became apparent that Trump was going to be the GOP nominee, I have had numerous discussions with what I call the “Resigned Trump” wing of the Republican Party. These are the people who didn’t support him in the primaries but are willing to fall for the “our nominee is slightly less awful” sales pitch that the GOP always gets around to at this point in the cycle. They are in desperate need of rationalizing their vote for a guy they just spent ten months loathing. They all have the same three talking points during our discussions, and they all offer them as if no one on Earth has ever heard them. Invariably, the first or second point they reflexively belch up is about Second Amendment rights. They say that Trump will be better than Hillary on the issue. I reply, “You have no proof of that, and I don’t trust him.”

Point, me.

If you like your Republicans willing to chuck the Fifth Amendment aside to abrogate your Second Amendment rights, then hey, keep riding that Trump Train.

I am sure the Trump devotees will now say that he will at least be “not as bad” as Hillary on Second Amendment rights. If Trump walks it back and/or pivots, they’ll pretend it never happened.

Our two big party choices seem to be vindictive megalomaniacs who would like to take away rights based on an arbitrary list curated by the government they run.

Stop trying to convince me that one of those is “better.”
