Putting the Band Back Together Again

When presidential administration run aground, invariably the “wise party elders” are brought in to salvage things. But no grownups have been available on the left hand side of the aisle since the New Left took over the party during the days of Vietnam. So Mr. Obama does what appears to be next best thing. “A struggling President Obama is calling for help from members of his first-term A-Team, who have left the White House for other jobs,” The Hill reports. “With his poll numbers falling and his second-term floundering so far, Obama has sought help from the former aides who helped catapult him to the presidency.”

What could go right? Or as Moe Lane asks…why?

After all, it was the so-called “A-Team” that took one of the most lopsided Congressional majorities in living memory and bloodily sacrificed it in order to get… Obamacare*. And that was just the most obvious mistake; this administration has racked up quite the litany of failure, Democratic agitprop and the Hill aside.

Besides, who needs wise men and old party hands, when you’ve got The One!!!!!1!1!!!!!, as Curt of the Flopping Aces blog notes, quoting from Jodi Kantor’s 2012 BHO biography:

Obama had always had a high estimation of his ability to cast and run his operation. When David Plouffe, his campaign manager, first interviewed for a job with him in 2006, the senator gave him a warning: “I think I could probably do every job on the campaign better than the people I’ll hire to do it,” he said. “It’s hard to give up control when that’s all I’ve known.” Obama said nearly the same thing to Patrick Gaspard, whom he hired to be the campaign’s political director. “I think I’m a better speechwriter than my speechwriters,” Obama told him. “I know more about policies on any particular issue than my policy directors. And I’ll tell you right now that I’m gonna think I’m a better political director than my political director.”

Like I said, there are no grownups left on the left. And there certainly isn’t one right now with his feet propped up on the Resolute Desk.
