The Real Fear That Liberals Have: Caring for Elderly Family Members?

PJ Media put up a video yesterday of Nancy Pelosi stating, “You want grandma living in the guest room? You repeal the Affordable Care Act.”

The Queen of Mean reveals a major reason that some liberals are so afraid that the government will not provide 100% for family members: one of these family members might have to depend on them for help. Looking beyond the argument of how to best manage healthcare in our country to the moral issues that Pelosi brings up, I find her choice of words telling. The truth is that some liberals in our country don’t want grandma in the guest room. Contrast this with some of the commenters here at PJM and their concern for grandma:

Jimbobob:

You know Mrs. Pelnasty, that used to be the way people did things. We used to take care of our parents and grandparents. Some of us still do. I lived with my grandma and helped her during her final years. Same with my dad. If I hadn’t moved in with him and paid the mortgage, he would have been homeless. We throw our elders away these days, or make them wards of the state. It’s a damn shame.

Commenter Kirk Newsted states:

I loved my grandmother. Not seeing why her living out her years in the guestroom would have been such a bad thing.

I sometimes wonder if the false sense of compassion of the government is just a cover for not having to deal with family members for some liberals.
