Every season has a look and feel all its own. Sometimes that look is bright and in our face. At other times it can be subtle, and seen only with focused intent.
Autumn, more than its sister seasons, often displays both of these qualities – and sometimes at the very same time.
During autumn, especially in northern climes, it is not unusual for even a casual glance to catch our eye, bringing an almost automatic “ooh, look at those colors!” response to our lips. But if we make an effort to really open our eyes – if we make an effort to look closely so we really see — there is often even a greater glory that awaits us.
The following photographs were all taken during early morning walks in the vicinity of my own home, not too far from Mt Monadnock, in southern New Hampshire.
