Hero Johnnie Langendorff Describes Going 95 MPH to Catch Sutherland Springs Shooter

Johnnie Langendorf was driving by the First Baptist Church Sunday morning when he saw Devin Patrick Kelley and another man exchanging gunfire.

Kelley, 26, had just killed at least 26 people and injured 15 to 20 others.

Langendorf told KSAT in a television interview that as he pulled up to the intersection, Kelley then took off in his car. He said the other man told him, “We needed to pursue him, he just shot up the church!”

“So that’s what I did. I just acted,” he said.

Langendorf explained that because Kelley got “a bit of a jump” on them, they drove about 95 miles an hour down 539 “going around traffic and everything.” The shooter then lost control of his vehicle and was run off the road.

At that point, the other man jumped out of the car and drew his rifle on Kelley, according to Langendorff. “He didn’t move after that,” he added. Kelley was found dead in his vehicle. It’s not yet clear how exactly he died.
