Devastating Footage of Harvey's Biblical Flooding

At almost 52 inches, Harvey has smashed the record for the most rainfall from a single tropical storm in Texas and the continental United States.

Rains in the region, near Mont Belvieu, Texas, reached 51.88 inches as of 3:30 p.m. CDT. That’s a record for both Texas and the continental United States but it doesn’t surpass the 52 inches from tropical cyclone Hiki in Kauai, Hawaii, in 1950 (before Hawaii became a state).

And the state is not out of the woods yet.

… southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana still would see “relentless torrential rains,” with another 6 to 12 inches of rain across the upper Texas coast through Friday as Harvey continues to move slowly east over the Gulf of Mexico maintaining tropical storm force winds of 45 mph, the National Hurricane Center said.

Here is some amazing footage via CasonVids of the devastating flood in Houston, where entire neighborhoods are under water and streets have been transformed into rivers. Dazed residents are seen getting out of flooded cars and wading through the floodwaters searching for help.

People aren’t the only ones who have needed rescuing from the flood. Hundreds of animals have been left stranded as people flee the city — either abandoned or separated from their owners in the rush to escape.

Nationwide, rescues and shelters have rallied to help.
