Maine Lawmaker Unleashes Profanity-Laced Diatribe, Threats Against Trump on Facebook

A Democrat state lawmaker in Maine on Tuesday attacked President Trump and his supporters in a now deleted Facebook rant in which he used the vilest language imaginable and threatened the president. Rep. Scott Hamann (D-South Portland) wrote:

Well then f*ck you, snowflake. You’re a f*cking pussy … See, it’s not only Trump supporters who can talk like complete a$$holes. As long as that’s what’s coming out of that side, then I’ll match you dumb f*cks word for word.

Hamann also wrote that Trump was “installed by the Russians” and ended his diatribe with a threat to the president, vowing that if he ever met him, Trump would not make it through his first term in office. “Trump is a half term president, at most, especially if I ever get within 10 feet of that pussy,” Hamann seethed.

The lawmaker directed much of his anger at Trump supporters, saying, “I just can’t deal with you ignorant people anymore.” But he had effusive praise for former President Obama, who he said “ran quite possibly the classiest 2 term presidency in US history.”

Hamann, who claims to have posted the deranged tirade in response to an “old friend,” has since expressed regret for his profanity-laced post, saying he was just trying to make a point about the “devolving political discourse in America.”

“I regret my impulsive decision to post something aggressively sarcastic and inappropriate in a Facebook exchange with a childhood friend,” he said in a written statement on Wednesday. “While the tone of the post was born out of frustration with the vile language currently surrounding politics, I should not have responded with the same language.”

“This is not language I typically use, it does not reflect my personal values and, while misguided, it was intended to make a visceral point about the devolving political discourse in America,” he said.

Screen grabs of the Hamann’s violent diatribe were forwarded to conservative talk radio host Keith Hanson, who hosts both “First Look” and “The Keith Hanson Show” on Fox News affiliate radio stations WNTK and WUVR in New Hampshire and Vermont.

Hanson shared the images with Fox News, as well as Hamann’s bosses the statewide hunger relief organization, Good Shepard Food Bank, where Hamann serves as a program director.

“I had somebody reach out to me and passed screenshots on to me saying that they were concerned about this,” Hanson told Fox News. “This is a Democrat, a liberal, who was threatening the president,” Hanson told Fox News.

Hanson told Fox News that Hamann confirmed to him, in a private Facebook message chain, that he posted the comments.

“Hi Keith. Contacting my employer over a facebook comment I made to an old friend? I’m sorry if the truth triggered you so much that you felt it was a good idea to send a screenshot to my employer,” Hamann messaged Hanson. “’Profanity-laden”?? Are you kidding me? The only swear words in the image you posted were a**, pr*cks, and Trump. Too much for a snowflake, then don’t read comments between me and my childhood friend.”

Hamann added, “if anything negative comes from your attack on my employment, my attorney will be in touch. Cease and desist.”

Hanson said he was shocked that an elected official could unleash such hate against the president.

“When you are selected to become the voice of an electorate, you have a huge responsibility to be policing your words and representing your constituents at the best of your ability,” Hanson told Fox News. “What was surprising to me was that anybody with half a brain would have said ‘those aren’t my comments.’”

The lawmaker’s Facebook comments came roughly a month after an unhinged Democrat opened fire on a congressional Republican baseball practice in Alexandria, Va., leaving five people wounded, including U.S. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), who remains in serious condition in the hospital.

Hamann may now have to deal the U.S. Secret Service because threatening the president is a crime.

The U.S. Secret Service is aware of Hamann’s statement and tracking the incident but has not opened an investigation, David Watson, resident agent in charge of the service’s Maine field office, said Wednesday afternoon.

Maine GOP Chair Demi Kouzounas decried Hamann’s “implied death threat,” saying it indicates he is “unhinged and dangerous.” He called on Speaker of the House Sara Gideon (D-Freeport) to ask for Hamann’s resignation.

“Words cannot even begin to describe the level of revulsion I feel after reading Representative Scott Hamann’s recent tirade that has come to light,” Kouzounas said in a statement. “Perhaps the most alarming aspect of this tirade is an implied death threat against our president.”

A spokeswoman for Gideon did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Hamann, who is 36 and was elected to a third term last November, is not the first Maine lawmaker to face heat for comments made online in recent years. In 2015, Sen. Mike Willette, R-Presque Isle, resigned from his co-chairmanship of the Legislature’s State and Local Government Committee following controversy caused by his inflammatory Facebook posts about Obama.

The Good Shepherd Food Bank, where Hamann works as project manager, distanced itself from his statements in its own Facebook post Tuesday night, but did not respond to requests for comment.

Hamann’s statement “is a direct violation of our organization’s social media policy,” a post from the anti-hunger group states. “The views and opinions expressed by this employee are his own, and in no way reflect the views of Good Shepherd Food Bank.”

Don’t hold your breath waiting for the Maine speaker of the House to reprimand a fellow Democrat, even though a Republican was hounded out of his committee chairmanship for posting something that pales in comparison. If Democrats didn’t have double standards, they wouldn’t have any at all.

But at the very least, shouldn’t he be forced to have a psych evaluation?
